S2 SOC2Starter

About us

Compliance tooling, sized for the team that actually has to do it.

SOC2Starter is built and run by Deepak Gandhi (trading as SOC2Starter), based in India.

Why we built it

A five-person startup gets told it needs SOC 2 to close a deal, opens a compliance platform, and is shown two hundred requirements with no indication of which ones matter this week. The tooling was designed for companies with a compliance team. Most companies that need SOC 2 do not have one — they have a CTO who already has a job.

So we built the opposite. Nineteen questions instead of a two-hour onboarding call. A short list of what to do next instead of an exhaustive register. Policy drafts written around the tools you actually use. And an evidence library that answers the only question an auditor really keeps asking: what proves this?

What we believe

Readiness is not certification, and saying otherwise is dishonest

No software can make you SOC 2 compliant. An independent CPA firm performs the examination. Any product claiming to certify you is either confused or selling you something. We say "readiness estimate" everywhere, including in places where a bigger number would sell better.

Evidence beats checkboxes

A tick in a dashboard proves nothing. Every requirement in SOC2Starter is tied to a document you could hand to an examiner, with a date on it and a record of who has opened it. Our integrations produce readable snapshots, never silent green ticks.

Security has to be structural, not a promise

We are asking you to store a list of your own security gaps with us. That only works if the isolation is enforced by the database rather than by application code we promise is correct — so it is. Integration credentials are stored where our own application role cannot read them. Evidence files are never public. Our privacy policy names every processor that touches your data.

You should be able to leave

Your policies export as Markdown or HTML. Your whole readiness position exports as a single audit pack. Deleting your account deletes your data, from inside the app, in one screen. A compliance tool that holds your evidence hostage is one nobody should recommend.

Who it is for

B2B SaaS companies of roughly 5 to 50 people preparing for a first SOC 2 examination — usually because an enterprise customer asked. If you have a compliance team and a GRC platform already, you are not who we built this for.
